After LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to the championship in the finals against the Miami Heat, the Lakers star was asked about the GOAT debate. LeBron did not want to participate, but at the same time expressed his admiration for Michael Jordan.
"You can discuss that," said LeBron when Rachel Nichols ( ESPN ) asked who was the best basketball player of all time. "You know how much I love Michael Jordan. I wear the number 23 because of him. When I got my first pair of Jordans, I was overjoyed. So you can have this debate yourself."
In Game 6 of the Finals, James led the Lakers to victory with his 11th Finals triple double and thus to the 17th championship in franchise history. After the series, LeBron was also voted Finals MVP, the King received this award for the fourth time in his career. He is the first player in NBA history to win the Finals MVP with three different teams.
Jordan, on the other hand, has six rings in his trophy cabinet on six trips to the finals. MJ was also recognized as a finals MVP for all six titles. The Bulls legend is widely considered the GOAT, the greatest basketball player of all time, but many fans believe that LeBron is getting closer and closer to Jordan.
"This is not a question or a debate for me. I just have my way of playing and how I lead a team. We call it barbershop talk," said LeBron when asked about the GOAT discussion.
Meanwhile, LeBron's co-star Anthony Davis faltered over the question. "I'm from Chicago, so I love Jordan. It's difficult to beat him," AD said after thinking it over. "You have to create facts. But [LeBron] has definitely brought another argument on his side with this title."
